The Freetown Peninsula Mountains are a scenic chain of forested hills and mountains that stretch across the Freetown Peninsula in the Western Area of Sierra Leone.

Rising steeply from the Atlantic coast, these mountains create a dramatic landscape of lush rainforest, valleys, streams, and panoramic viewpoints overlooking the ocean and the city of Freetown. Much of the mountain region lies within or near the Western Area Peninsula National Park, an important conservation area that protects rich biodiversity, including chimpanzees, monkeys, rare birds, and numerous plant species.

The mountains also play a vital role in supplying water to the capital and preserving one of the country’s most significant remaining rainforest ecosystems. Known for their natural beauty, hiking opportunities, and spectacular coastal scenery, the Freetown Peninsula Mountains are among the most iconic landscapes in Sierra Leone, where verdant hills meet white-sand beaches and the Atlantic Ocean.
