Fürstlich-Leiningensches Palais Amorbach
Amorbach, Germany, Germany
The Fürstlich-Leiningensches Palais in Amorbach is a historic palace in the Bavarian Odenwald that serves as the traditional residence of the princely House of Leiningen. The main building was constructed between 1724 and 1727 as the official residence of the Electoral Mainz administrator Franz Wolfgang Damian von Ostein, based on designs by architect Anselm Franz von Ritter zu Groenesteyn. After 1803, the palace became associated with the Princes of Leiningen, who expanded the complex and made it their family seat. Further additions were made around 1830, giving the palace much of its present appearance. The site is also linked to European history through the Leiningen family and their connections to the British royal family. Today, the palace remains a prominent landmark in Amorbach. Its elegant Baroque architecture, mansard roof, decorated façades, and historic setting near the former Amorbach Abbey make it one of the town’s most significant cultural and architectural attractions.
