Verified Garden in the Woods

Framingham, Massachusetts, United States

Garden in the Woods in Framingham, Massachusetts, is a 45-acre woodland botanical garden established in 1931 when Will C. Curtis purchased the land, transforming it into a naturalistic garden focusing on native New England plants.

Curtis, aided by his partner Dick Stiles, cultivated over 1,000 species of native plants, maintaining an ecological landscape featuring rolling hills, ponds, and woodlands shaped by glacial activity. The garden was deeded to the New England Wild Flower Society (now Native Plant Trust) in 1965, which continues Curtis’s legacy by conserving native plants, educating the public, and operating a large native plant nursery.

It serves as the Trust’s headquarters and offers diverse habitats that foster plant conservation and environmental education with trails that allow visitors to experience seasonal blooms and wildlife. The garden also hosts numerous educational programs and events, promoting knowledge about native plants and ecological stewardship in a beautiful natural setting.
