Glasgow Botanic Gardens
Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Glasgow Botanic Gardens is a large, historic botanical garden in the West End of Glasgow, set on the banks of the River Kelvin between Great Western Road and Queen Margaret Drive, and run by Glasgow City Council.
Founded in the early 19th century, it now covers around 20 hectares (about 50 acres) and holds roughly 9,000 plant species, including several national collections such as tree ferns, dendrobium orchids, and begonias, all used for conservation, education, and public display.
The site is centred around the famous Kibble Palace, a grand iron‑and‑glass Victorian conservatory that houses a dense forest of tree ferns, carnivorous plants, sculptures, and a koi pond, while the wider grounds feature themed areas like a rose garden, herb garden, woodland walks, and an arboretum, all free to enter and open year‑round as a popular green escape for both locals and visitors.
