The garden features a rich variety of rare plants, including one of Europe’s finest collections of salvias curated by expert William Dyson. Its design includes an Italian Garden inspired by Roderick’s wartime experiences in Italy, romantic hand-built ruins, woodland walks, and ornamental lawns dotted with classical urns and sculptures.

The garden is known for its vibrant seasonal displays, with magnolias, azaleas, and rhododendrons in spring, followed by a colorful summer of salvias and ornamental grasses, creating a tranquil and picturesque setting. Great Comp also features The Old Dairy Tearooms within a converted historic building, offering a peaceful place to enjoy the garden’s beauty.

Despite damage from storms in the late 20th century, the garden's restoration and ongoing care have preserved its unique blend of horticultural richness and personal history.
