Gut Rundhof
Stangheck, Germany
Gut Rundhof is a historic estate located in the municipality of Stangheck near Gelting in northeastern Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It originated from a medieval water castle first documented in 1231 and evolved into a large landed estate by the late Middle Ages.
The main manor house, often referred to as a castle, was constructed in the mid-18th century in a late Baroque style with brickwork and features a distinctive dual-hipped roof design. The design incorporated plans by the architect Johann Gottfried Rosenberg and was executed by Georg Greggenhofer.
The manor stands on a water-surrounded courtyard island, flanked by two auxiliary buildings, forming a three-wing complex around a ceremonial courtyard. The estate was historically owned by the noble von Rumohr family since the late 16th century and remains privately owned today, with limited public access.
The surrounding grounds included a Baroque garden redesigned into a landscape garden in the 19th century. The estate remains a prominent cultural and architectural monument in the region, reflecting centuries of aristocratic history and regional development in Angeln and Schleswig-Holstein.
