Harry P. Leu Gardens
Orlando, Florida, United States
Harry P. Leu Gardens in Orlando, Florida, is a 50-acre botanical garden that began as a private estate owned by businessman Harry P. Leu and his wife Mary Jane, who purchased the land in 1936.
The gardens feature a rich history dating back to 1858 when the land was first settled by the Mizell family. Over the decades, the Leus cultivated a diverse collection of over 3,000 camellia bushes, azaleas, and hundreds of exotic plants brought from their travels worldwide. In 1961, they donated the property to the City of Orlando to be used as a public garden dedicated to education and horticultural enjoyment.
The site includes the Leu House Museum, a preserved home exemplifying early 20th-century Florida living, and a variety of themed garden areas such as a rose garden, butterfly garden, and tropical stream garden. With paved trails, scenic landscapes, and educational programming, it remains a cherished cultural and botanical landmark, blending natural beauty with historical significance.
