Hartman Arboretum in Evansville, Indiana, was founded in 2001 by Grant and Jean Hartman as a place for people to connect with nature and learn about the diversity of trees, shrubs, and wildlife native to Southern Indiana.
The arboretum spans about 20 acres and features around 500 trees including 17 different redbud cultivars and 18 varieties of oaks. It contains specialized gardens such as a Wildlife Garden, which attracts butterflies with nectar and host plants, a Hydrangea Collection, a Memorial Garden offering a quiet retreat, and a "Stumpery" woodland garden showcasing native wildflowers and shaded plants.
There is also a blueberry patch and themed groves highlighting seasonal beauty like fall colors and spring blooms. The arboretum hosts public events like Butterfly Day and educational programs to engage visitors of all ages and is maintained by dedicated volunteers, serving as a valued green space and outdoor classroom in the community.
