Helme Order Castle Ruins are the remains of a medieval fortress located in southern Estonia near the town of Helme.

The castle was built by the Livonian Order in the first half of the 14th century on a strategically important hilltop and served as a military stronghold and administrative center for centuries. Although much of the castle was destroyed over time, especially after being ruined by Swedish forces in 1658, parts of its stone walls and distinctive window openings still survive.

The ruins offer a glimpse into Estonia’s medieval past and the region’s role in historical conflicts involving various powers, including Germans, Russians, Lithuanians, and Swedes. Today, the site is a popular historical attraction surrounded by scenic countryside. It is also connected to local legends, including a tale of a maiden entombed within the castle walls, while the nearby Doctor’s Spring is traditionally believed to have healing properties.
