Helmenstein
Neidlingen, Germany, Germany
Helmenstein, more commonly known as Heimenstein, was a small medieval hilltop castle near Neidlingen in Baden-Württemberg.
Built around the first half of the 13th century by the Lords of Heimenstein, it stood on a steep rock opposite the famous Reußenstein Castle and occupied a strategically impressive location above the valley. Very little of the castle survives today. The site is classified as a castle ruin or castle earthwork, with only traces of defensive ditches and a few structural remains still visible.
The nearby Heimenstein Cave may once have formed part of the castle’s defenses. Although the castle disappeared centuries ago, the rocky outcrop and surviving remnants remain a point of interest for hikers and history enthusiasts exploring the Swabian Alb. The site offers a glimpse into the region’s medieval past and its network of noble fortifications.
