Hetampur Fort

Hetampur Fort is a historic fort located in Hetampur village of Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh.

It was built in the 16th century by Hetam Khan, a jagirdar of Sher Shah Suri, and was constructed using Lahori bricks and Chunar sandstone. The fort once covered a large area and is now protected by the Archaeological Department. The fort is well known for its maze-like design, underground passages, and local legends.

One popular story claims that a wedding procession became lost inside its tunnels, leading locals to nickname it “Bhulaini Court,” meaning a place where people lose their way. However, this tale remains part of local folklore rather than verified history. Today, although parts of the structure are in ruins, Hetampur Fort remains an important historical landmark that reflects the region’s medieval architecture and cultural heritage, attracting visitors interested in history, mystery, and local traditions.
