Hilpoltstein is a historic town in Bavaria, Germany, located near the Rothsee lake and about 30 kilometers south of Nuremberg. Its origins date back more than 1,000 years, and the town grew around a medieval castle built by the Lords of Stein, whose impressive ruins still overlook the old town today. The town is known for its well-preserved historic center, featuring traditional Franconian architecture, a market square lined with half-timbered buildings, sections of the old town wall, and notable landmarks such as St. John the Baptist Church and the former residence castle. Today, Hilpoltstein combines rich history with modern tourism and outdoor recreation. It is a gateway to the Franconian Lake District and is internationally known for hosting Challenge Roth, one of the world’s largest long-distance triathlon events, while also attracting visitors with its medieval festivals, museums, and scenic surroundings.
