Hohenfreyberg Castle is a dramatic medieval castle ruin in the Allgäu region of Bavaria, near the village of Eisenberg.

Built between 1418 and 1432 by Friedrich von Freyberg, it is considered one of the last major castles constructed in the traditional medieval hilltop style and stands on a prominent ridge with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. The castle was designed as a symbol of noble power during a time of social and political change.

It later came under Austrian control and was strengthened with additional defenses. During the Thirty Years' War, it was abandoned and deliberately set on fire in 1646 to keep it from falling into enemy hands, leaving it a ruin. Today, Hohenfreyberg Castle is one of the best-preserved castle ruins in southern Germany. Extensive conservation work has stabilized the site, and visitors can explore its remains while enjoying spectacular views and learning about the region’s medieval history.
