Hohenkrähen is a 644-meter volcanic phonolite cone and protected nature reserve in the Hegau region near Duchtlingen, Hilzingen, Germany, crowned by the dramatic Ruine Hohenkrähen—a high medieval castle ruin with remnants of walls, a well-preserved gate tower, and outer defenses. Built around 1200 as a strategic fortress overlooking Schlatt unter Krähen and the western Lake Constance area, it endured sieges including a 1732 cannonball strike still visible today, offering hikers panoramic views of the Hegau volcanoes, Bodensee, Alps, Hohentwiel fortress, and Black Forest. The 12.4-hectare site, designated a nature reserve since 1983, welcomes visitors year-round via accessible trails for an atmospheric blend of volcanic geology, medieval history, and sweeping vistas.
