Hohes Schloss
Füssen, Germany, Germany
Hohes Schloss (High Castle) is a prominent late Gothic castle that stands on a hill above the old town of Füssen in Bavaria, Germany.
Originally developed as the summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Augsburg, it is considered one of the best-preserved medieval castle complexes in Bavaria. The castle is famous for its striking towers and unique illusionistic façade paintings that create the appearance of architectural details where none actually exist.
Much of its current appearance dates from major renovations carried out in the late 15th century. Today, Hohes Schloss houses art galleries, including collections of late Gothic paintings and sculptures, and offers visitors impressive views over Füssen, the surrounding Allgäu landscape, and the historic town below.
