Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden in Kāneʻohe, O‘ahu, Hawaii, spans approximately 400 acres and was established in 1982 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers primarily as flood protection for the nearby community.

The garden is designed as a lush rainforest sanctuary featuring plants from major tropical regions worldwide, including the Philippines, Africa, Polynesia, and the Americas, with collections grouped geographically to enhance visitor experience. A large 32-acre lake anchors the garden, surrounded by winding walking trails that reveal a diverse array of tropical flowers, trees, and rare plants such as the Açaí palm.

The garden includes amenities like a visitor center with educational facilities, picnic and camping areas, and offers a peaceful environment recognized as a “place of peace and tranquility.” It attracts nature lovers and those interested in tropical plants, serving both recreational and educational purposes while preserving rare plant species.
