The Idaho Botanical Garden in Boise, Idaho, was established in 1984 on a 32-acre site leased from the Idaho State Historical Society and the State of Idaho, formerly part of the Old Idaho Penitentiary grounds, which had been used as a prison farm and nursery.

The garden serves as a living museum, showcasing nearly 15 acres of native and exotic plants, with specialized areas such as the Meditation Garden, Rose Garden, Herb Garden, and the Idaho Native Plant Garden featuring flora adapted to the local high desert climate.

The garden was founded by local botanist Dr. Christopher Davidson and a team of civic leaders who installed irrigation systems, developed nature trails, and planted diverse collections to emphasize horticultural diversity and environmental stewardship. With its landscape enhanced by sandstone terraces and historic reclaimed stonework, the garden offers peaceful walking paths, art installations, and spaces for community events like the popular summer music series and fall harvest festival.

It stands as a beloved destination for education, conservation, and enjoying natural beauty in Boise.
