Imperial Castle of Nuremberg

Nuremberg, Germany, Germany

---

The Imperial Castle of Nuremberg (Kaiserburg) is one of Germany’s most famous medieval landmarks and the symbol of the city of Nuremberg.

Perched on a sandstone ridge above the old town, it was one of the most important imperial residences of the Holy Roman Empire and served as a temporary home for German kings and emperors for centuries. The castle complex dates back to around the 11th century and includes historic buildings, defensive walls, towers, courtyards, and the Imperial Chapel.

Together with Nuremberg’s city walls, it is considered one of Europe’s strongest surviving medieval fortifications. Although parts of the castle were heavily damaged during World War II, it was carefully restored and remains a major cultural and tourist attraction. Visitors can explore museum exhibits, historic rooms, the famous Deep Well, and the Sinwell Tower while enjoying panoramic views of Nuremberg.
