Inowrocław is a historic city in north-central Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, first mentioned in 1185 as Nowy Władysław under Piast Duke Władysław I Herman and granted town rights around 1220-1230, thriving as a key trade hub on routes linking southern Europe to the Baltic Sea. Capital of the short-lived Duchy of Inowrocław (13th-14th centuries) under fragmented Piasts, it endured Teutonic sieges, Swedish Deluge devastation, and Prussian partitions but regained Polish control post-1918, later developing as a spa town for its saline springs.
