Jagdschloss Glienicke
Berlin, Germany, Germany
Jagdschloss Glienicke is a historic hunting lodge in Berlin’s Wannsee district, near the famous Glienicke Bridge.
Originally built between 1682 and 1693 for Frederick William, the Great Elector of Brandenburg, it began as a royal hunting retreat and later became part of the prestigious Prussian palace landscape along the Havel River. Over the centuries, the building served many purposes, including a military hospital, a wallpaper factory, and an orphanage.
In the 19th century, Prince Carl of Prussia transformed it into an elegant residence through extensive renovations in Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque styles, giving the lodge much of its present appearance. Today, Jagdschloss Glienicke is part of the UNESCO-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. Its picturesque setting, rich Prussian history, and striking architecture make it an important cultural landmark within the historic landscape surrounding Berlin and Potsdam.
