Jörgenberg
Breil/Brigels, Switzerland, Germany
Jörgenberg Castle is a prominent medieval ruin in the Swiss municipality of Breil/Brigels (also known as Brigels), located in the canton of Graubünden within the Surselva region above the village of Waltensburg/Vuorz.
Originally a fortified church from the 8th century, it evolved into the largest castle complex in Surselva, measuring about 100 by 70 meters, and served as an administrative and judicial center under families like the Frybergs, Rhäzüns, and later the Disentis Monastery until its abandonment in the 17th century.
Now a Swiss heritage site of national significance, it offers scenic terrace views over the Anterior Rhine valley, ties to local skiing at Breil/Brigels resort, and nearby historical features like stone gallows pillars, with no connection to Germany as it's entirely in Switzerland.
