Kámoni Arborétum is a 27-hectare botanical garden located in the northern inner city of Szombathely, Hungary, operated as part of the University of Sopron’s Forestry Scientific Institute. Founded in the 1860s by landowner Mihály Saághy and later expanded by his son István Saághy who planted over 500 woody plants by the 1930s, it now houses approximately 3,200 tree and shrub species from temperate and cold climate regions. Although two-thirds of the area was destroyed during World War II, dedicated recovery work by the Forestry Scientific Institute restored it to become Hungary’s richest collection of woody plants. The arboretum features notable attractions including a rose collection with about 500 rose species, a unique cactus garden, diverse rhododendrons that bloom spectacularly in May, small ponds, a secret waterfall, and romantic bridges. It is open daily from April 16 to October 14 (9 AM–7 PM) and from October 15 to April 15 (9 AM–5 PM), with entrance accessible from Szent Imre herceg utca.
