Kirchenburg Aschfeld is a well-preserved fortified church complex in the village of Aschfeld, part of Eußenheim in Bavaria. Originally built as a refuge and defensive site in the 13th century, it provided protection for local residents during times of conflict and remained in use as a fortified shelter until after the Thirty Years' War. The complex consists of a church, a defensive tower, historic storage buildings known as Gaden, and a series of cellars enclosed within fortified walls. These structures offer a rare glimpse into medieval rural life and the ways communities protected themselves and stored supplies. Today, Kirchenburg Aschfeld functions as an open-air historical site and cultural attraction. Carefully restored since the 1980s, it features exhibits on local history and traditional village life, making it one of the most distinctive heritage sites in the Main-Spessart region.
