Kolmanskop, located near Lüderitz in Namibia’s ǁKaras Region, is a famous ghost town that was once a thriving diamond-mining settlement during the early 1900s.
Built in a German colonial style, the town featured luxurious amenities for its time, including a hospital, school, theater, and power station. After diamond deposits declined and richer discoveries were made elsewhere, the town was gradually abandoned and completely deserted by 1956.
Today, drifting sands from the Namib Desert fill many of the abandoned buildings, creating a striking and surreal landscape that attracts photographers, history enthusiasts, and tourists from around the world.
