La Punta is a small, picturesque district and peninsula in Callao, Peru, officially established on October 6, 1915, located almost entirely surrounded by the Pacific Ocean except on its northeastern side where it borders downtown Callao. Covering just 0.38 square kilometers, it is Peru's smallest district but stands out as an upper-middle-class, safe, and nearly crime-free area where Callao's most prestigious families have historically lived, originally settled by Italian Peruvians in the early 20th century who became a hotspot for the Peruvian elite in the 1930s. The district is known for its calm, pebble-lined beaches (unlike Lima's white-sand Costa Verde), clean water, and near-crime-free environment, making it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and water activities like rowing, kayaking, and boating at its popular yacht clubs. Highlights include stunning views of San Lorenzo (Peru's largest island and naval base) and El Frontón islands just 5 kilometers away, the historic Real Felipe Fortress built to defend Lima from pirates, the Peruvian Naval Academy, and charming republican mansions and pristine streets that reflect its Italian-Peruvian heritage.
