Lake Tamula
Estonia, Estonia
Lake Tamula is a medium‑sized lake in southern Estonia, lying just to the southeast of the town of Võru and forming a central part of the local landscape and daily life. The lake covers about 231 hectares with an average depth of 4.2 metres and a maximum depth of 7.5 metres, its surface shaped roughly oval in an east–west direction. On the town side there is a long, sandy beach with a well‑designed promenade stretching roughly 800 metres from the Tamula Hotel to the Roosisaare bridge, lined with changing cabins, playgrounds, sports areas and cafés where visitors can swim, sunbathe, walk, or watch concerts and events in summer. Across the lake on Roosisaare (Rose Island) stands an important prehistoric settlement site dating back nearly 5000 years, reachable by one of Estonia’s longest suspension bridges, adding both natural beauty and historical interest to this popular lakeside area.
