Leasowes Park
Halesowen, England, United Kingdom
Leasowes Park, or The Leasowes, is a 57‑hectare (about 140‑acre) public park in Halesowen on the southern edge of the West Midlands conurbation, originally laid out as an influential 18th‑century landscape garden.
It was created between 1743 and 1763 by the poet William Shenstone as a “ferme ornée” (ornamental farm), designed to look simple and naturally rural while carefully shaping valleys, grassland, water channels, and a circuit walk past seats, urns, and poetic inscriptions.
The site is now a Grade I listed park on the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest and also a Site of Special Scientific Interest, with woodlands, streams, and restored features such as Virgil’s Grove and a long lake formed from part of the old Lapal Canal.
