Leonberg Castle
Leonberg, Germany, Germany
Leonberg Castle (Schloss Leonberg) is a historic castle in Leonberg, Baden-Württemberg, originally built around 1248 by Count Ulrich I of Württemberg as part of the town’s fortifications.
In the 16th century, Duke Christoph of Württemberg transformed the medieval fortress into a Renaissance-style palace that largely defines its appearance today. The castle later served as a residence for several Württemberg duchesses, including Duchess Sibylla, who used it as her widow’s residence and helped shape the surrounding grounds.
It is especially associated with the nearby Pomeranzengarten, a beautifully restored Renaissance garden that remains one of the town’s most notable attractions. Today, the castle remains an important landmark and is owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg.
