It features opulent interiors with fine oak paneling, period furniture, artworks by masters like Rubens and Lely, Cordova leather wall hangings, and the earliest known English patchwork quilt.

The estate is world-famous for its 17th-century topiary gardens—the oldest surviving examples—designed by Guillaume Beaumont with yew and boxwood shapes like chess pieces and giants, plus a fountain garden, orchard, nuttery, and surrounding parkland with ancient oaks overlooking the River Kent.
