The Lubwartturm is the historic landmark of Bad Liebenwerda and one of the oldest surviving towers in Brandenburg, Germany. Built around 1207 as the keep and watchtower of a medieval moated castle, it is the only substantial remnant of the former Castle of Liebenwerda. Standing about 31.5 meters tall, the tower once served defensive and administrative purposes and was part of a chain of fortifications along the Black Elster River. Over the centuries, as the castle lost its military role, the surrounding complex was transformed, but the tower remained as a symbol of the town’s long history. Today, visitors can climb the tower’s 122 steps to enjoy views of Bad Liebenwerda and learn about its past through an audio-guided tour. As a protected monument and one of the region’s most recognizable attractions, the Lubwartturm offers a fascinating link to medieval Brandenburg.
