Luther Burbank Home & Gardens
Santa Rosa, California, United States
The Luther Burbank Home & Gardens in Santa Rosa, California, is a city park encompassing the former home, greenhouse, gardens, and grave of the renowned horticulturist Luther Burbank, who lived there for over 50 years.
He purchased the four-acre property, known as the "Dimmick place," in 1884, where he conducted his groundbreaking plant breeding experiments that led to the development of over 800 new varieties of fruits, flowers, and vegetables, including the Santa Rosa plum and the russet potato.
The site includes a restored Victorian home, a historic greenhouse built by Burbank, and gardens featuring many of the plants he developed. Burbank's legacy is preserved through educational tours and exhibits that showcase his scientific contributions.
After his death in 1926, his widow Elizabeth lived on the property until 1977, and both are buried on the grounds. The gardens and home are recognized as a National Historic Landmark and remain a significant cultural and botanical site celebrating his impact on horticulture and agriculture.
