Madikeri is a picturesque hill town in the Kodagu (Coorg) district of Karnataka, nestled in the Western Ghats at an elevation of about 1,160 meters.

It serves as the district headquarters and is often called the “heart” of Coorg due to its cool climate, mist‑covered hills, and dense evergreen forests. The town is surrounded by flowing streams that feed the Cauvery River and is famous for its sprawling coffee plantations, spice farms, and rolling green valleys.

Among its main attractions are Madikeri Fort, the unique Omkareshwara Temple that blends Islamic and Gothic styles, and the Raja’s Seat gardens offering sweeping views of the countryside. Madikeri also has a rich local history, having been the traditional capital of the Coorg kingdom, and today it functions as a peaceful cultural and tourist hub known for its slower pace, birdwatching, trekking, and rural charm.
