Maracajaú
Brazil, Brazil
Maracajaú is a small coastal village and beach community in the municipality of Maxaranguape, in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, about 50–55 km north of the state capital, Natal.
It is nicknamed the “Brazilian Caribbean” for its white‑sand shoreline, coconut‑lined dunes, and exceptionally clear, turquoise waters, and is particularly famous for the nearby Parrachos de Maracajaú, a coral‑reef complex about 7 km offshore that forms large natural pools at low tide between 1 and 3 metres deep.
The area is considered one of the best snorkelling spots in Brazil, with rich marine life visible even to beginners, and it also attracts diving‑baptism visitors and those who enjoy kitesurfing, windsurfing, and other calm‑water sports. Originally a quiet fishing village of roughly 2,000 people, Maracajaú has shifted toward tourism while keeping a relaxed, low‑key atmosphere compared with larger Brazilian beach resorts.
