Verified Marmorpalais

Potsdam, Germany, Germany

The Marmorpalais (Marble Palace) is an elegant Neoclassical palace in Potsdam’s Neuer Garten park, situated on the shores of the Heiliger See.

It was commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a private summer residence and built between 1787 and 1793 by architects Carl von Gontard and Carl Gotthard Langhans. Despite its name, the palace is mainly constructed of red brick and is decorated with gray and white Silesian marble, which gave it the name “Marble Palace.”

Its distinctive design, crowned by a circular belvedere overlooking the surrounding lakes and gardens, makes it one of the finest examples of early Neoclassical architecture in Prussia. The palace remained a royal residence for generations of the Hohenzollern family and is now part of the UNESCO-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. Restored and open to visitors, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Prussian royal life, art, and architecture.
