Mindelburg is a historic hilltop castle overlooking the town of Mindelheim in Bavaria’s Unterallgäu region.

Perched on the Georgenberg, it has been a prominent landmark for centuries and is believed to date back to at least the 12th century, making it one of the region’s most important medieval fortifications. The castle was destroyed around 1305 and rebuilt in 1370.

It later became associated with the noble Frundsberg family, including the famous military leader Georg von Frundsberg, who was born there and became known as the “Father of the Landsknechts.” Today, Mindelburg is valued for its well-preserved architecture, panoramic views, historic chapel, and imposing tower. As a symbol of Mindelheim, it remains an important cultural monument and a popular destination for visitors interested in medieval history and scenic landscapes.
