Moorten Botanical Garden and Cactarium in Palm Springs, California, was established in 1939 by Chester “Cactus Slim” Moorten and his wife Patricia.

The garden started as a nursery and evolved into a one-acre desert oasis showcasing over 3,000 varieties of desert plants, cacti, and succulents from around the world. It is famously home to the world's first cactarium, a greenhouse filled with rare and unique cactus and succulent species.

The Moorten family has been deeply involved in the garden’s development, expanding it over decades and contributing to local horticulture, including landscaping for celebrities like Walt Disney and Frank Sinatra. 

The garden also features themed outdoor areas, the Desert Lily House, and historical exhibits, offering visitors a tranquil and magical escape surrounded by desert flora. The garden remains a family-owned treasure and a cultural landmark dedicated to desert plant education and conservation.​
