Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens
Florida, United States
The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach, Florida, was established in 1977 to honor the legacy of the Yamato Colony, a group of Japanese farmers who settled in the area in the early 1900s.
Named after George Morikami, one of the last remaining settlers who donated his land for the park, it spans 16 acres featuring six historic Japanese gardens designed to represent various periods and styles from across Japan.
The museum houses over 7,500 Japanese art objects and artifacts and offers rotating exhibits, traditional tea ceremonies, cultural demonstrations, and educational programs that celebrate Japanese culture and its connection to South Florida. The gardens include tranquil ponds, waterfalls, bonsai collections, and an authentic tea house, providing visitors with an immersive experience of Japan’s horticultural and artistic heritage.
