Verified Mounts Botanical Garden

Florida, United States

Mounts Botanical Garden in West Palm Beach, Florida, is the oldest and largest public garden in Palm Beach County, spanning about 20 acres and hosting over 7,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants from six continents.

Established in 1954 alongside the Palm Beach County Agricultural Extension Agency building named after Marvin "Red" Mounts—an influential agricultural extension agent credited with introducing and advising on tropical fruit and various sustainable farming practices—the garden was originally focused on fruit tree plantings. In the 1970s, Clayton Hutcheson expanded the garden into a Horticultural Learning Center with support from local horticultural societies and volunteers.

It was officially named Mounts Botanical Garden in 1986 and has continued to grow, developing 25 themed gardens showcasing Florida natives, tropical fruits, palms, orchids, bromeliads, and more. The garden faced significant damage from hurricanes Frances, Jeanne, and Wilma in 2004-2005, but restoration efforts have restored much of its beauty, making it a premier destination for education, conservation, and horticultural enjoyment.
