The Municipal Rose Garden in San Jose, California, was founded in 1927 on 5.5 acres of land that was once a prune orchard.

It was created following strong support from the Santa Clara County Rose Society and officially opened in 1937 after years of development. The garden is exclusively dedicated to roses, featuring over 3,500 rose bushes representing 189 varieties, including hybrid teas, floribundas, miniatures, climbers, and polyanthas.

It serves as a national test garden for new rose varieties before they are released to the public, contributing to the cultivation and breeding of roses. The garden features beautifully maintained lawns, themed sections, and a detailed map of plantings, attracting visitors with fragrant and colorful blooms primarily from April through November.

In 2010, it was named "America's Best Rose Garden" in a nationwide competition for its beauty, creativity, and community involvement. The garden remains a cherished historic landmark and a vibrant hub for rose enthusiasts and visitors from around the world.​
