Museum Langes Tannen

Uetersen, Germany, Germany

Museum Langes Tannen in Uetersen, Germany, is a historic museum housed in the former rural estate of the Lange family, established since 1739 as "Langes Neue Mühle" with a protected complex including a neoclassical manor house from the early 19th century, a barn rebuilt after a 1762 fire, and an octagonal mill stump from 1796, all set amid 26 hectares of woods, meadows, fields, parklands, and ponds. In 1979, Werner Lange bequeathed the entire property and family inventory—featuring 19th-century furniture, silver, graphics, textiles, and decor—to the city on the condition it be preserved as a public museum and recreational park, opening in 1985 to showcase bourgeois living culture in northern Germany. The site now offers permanent exhibits in the manor, temporary shows and concerts in the museum barn (damaged by arson in 2021), and year-round access to its idyllic grounds for relaxation.
