Museum Luther's Death House
Eisleben, Germany, Germany
Museum Luther's Death House in Eisleben, Germany, is a late-Gothic patrician house on Andreaskirchplatz long revered since 1726 as the site where Martin Luther died on February 18, 1546, though research confirms the actual location was a different Drachstedt family house on the market square, demolished in 1570.
Acquired by Prussia in the 19th century and rebuilt in 1892 to mimic the presumed original, it became a memorial before major 2013 renovations costing 5.8 million euros added a modern extension for the exhibition "Luther's Last Path," displaying 110 artifacts like historic furniture, documents, signatures, and the original 1546 pall from his coffin.
Part of the UNESCO-listed Luther Memorials alongside his nearby birth house, it explores Luther's final days, his views on death as a pastor and sufferer, and reconciliation efforts with Mansfeld counts.
