Myślenice is a town in southern Poland's Lesser Poland Voivodeship, located about 30 km south of Kraków along the Raba River in a scenic valley surrounded by hills.
First mentioned between 1253-1258 in the Tyniec Codex as a fortified settlement called Mislimichi with a castle (known locally as "zamczysko") to protect Kraków's southern approaches, it received Magdeburg town rights in 1342 from King Casimir the Great, who sold its sołectwo to two Wieliczka merchants named Hynko, spurring growth as a trade hub on routes to Hungary.
Named possibly after founder Myślimir, it endured the Swedish Deluge, fires, and Austrian annexation in 1772, developing further in the 19th century with infrastructure like a 1892 water supply before rejoining Poland after 1918.
