Verified National Trust - Coleton Fishacre

Kingswear, England, United Kingdom

Coleton Fishacre is a 1920s country house and garden in the South Devon countryside near Kingswear, owned and managed by the National Trust.

The Arts and Crafts‑style house was built between 1923 and 1926 for Rupert D’Oyly Carte and his wife, Lady Dorothy Carte, as a luxurious seaside retreat, and its interior is decorated in an elegant Art Deco style. The estate sits on a sheltered coastal slope and includes about 24 acres of subtropical‑style gardens that run down a narrow valley to a small rocky sea inlet, with terraces, pools, and exotic plants from the Mediterranean, South Africa, and New Zealand.

The gardens are Grade II* listed on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens and are especially noted for their microclimate and coastal views, while the house itself is Grade II listed and opened fully to the public in 1999. Visitors can walk the coastal paths, enjoy the café and shop, and explore house displays that reflect the luxury and glamour of the Jazz‑Age era.
