Neuhaus Castle (Schloss Neuhaus) stands on a rocky outcrop above the River Inn in Neuhaus am Inn, directly across from the Austrian town of Schärding.

Built in the 14th century by the Bavarian dukes to protect the important bridge crossing, the castle occupied a strategic border position and played a significant role in regional defense. The castle was extensively remodeled in the Rococo style between 1750 and 1752, giving much of the complex its present appearance.

Over the centuries it passed through several noble owners before being purchased in 1859 by the Institute of the English Ladies, which established a school and convent there. A neo-Baroque church was added in the early 20th century, linking older and newer sections of the complex. Today, Schloss Neuhaus remains one of the most prominent landmarks in the region.

The historic buildings now serve educational purposes, housing a secondary school, while the castle’s distinctive architecture and scenic riverside setting continue to reflect its long and varied history.
