Ngong Hills are a scenic ridge of rolling green peaks southwest of Nairobi, set along the edge of the Great Rift Valley and about 25 kilometers from the city center. The hills rise to about 2,460 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views of Nairobi on one side and the Rift Valley dropping away on the other, making them one of the easiest and most popular day‑trip hikes from the capital. The area is covered by Ngong Hills Forest, a managed forest reserve with a mix of indigenous and planted trees that supports wildlife such as buffalo, wild pigs, dik‑diks, and porcupines, as well as many birds. A well‑known trail runs along the top of the ridge, usually taking several hours to hike across several hills, and is widely used for hiking, picnicking, photography, and team‑building outings, with the added backdrop of wind turbines from Kenya’s first wind farm on the ridge.
