Nowy Jasiniec
Poland, Poland
Nowy Jasiniec is a village in north-central Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, within Bydgoszcz County and Gmina Koronowo, historically serving as a border stronghold on a peninsula in Lake Zamkowe along trade routes from Poland to Pomerania.
First noted in 1264 with a Pomeranian duke's gród and castellan Nasław, it was seized by Teutonic Knights who built a Gothic brick castle around 1377-1392 on a rectangular plan with a main building and gate tower, resisting Polish sieges like in 1433 during Polish-Hussite raids.
Captured by Poles in 1454 during the Thirteen Years' War, it became a non-grod starosty seat under King Casimir IV Jagiellon until 1772, later adapted as a Protestant church for German settlers in 1773-1846 before Prussian partitions led to decay and material quarrying, leaving thick-walled ruins today.
