Oberes Schloss Schmidmühlen is a historic castle in the Bavarian town of Schmidmühlen that originated as a medieval moated castle belonging to the local Lords of Schmidmühlen.

The site has roots dating back to at least the 12th century, while Schmidmühlen itself was first mentioned in records in 1010. Over the centuries, the property passed through the hands of various noble families and served as an important local seat of administration and lordship. The present castle building was largely constructed around 1600 by Georg Hausner von Winbuch, replacing earlier medieval structures.

Its architecture reflects the transition from a fortified residence to a more comfortable noble manor, although it still stands on the site of the former water castle. After periods of decline and restoration, the castle became the property of the municipality in 1937. Today, it serves as Schmidmühlen’s town hall and remains one of the community’s most important historic landmarks, preserving centuries of local history and architectural heritage.
