The Orangerieschloss (Orangery Palace) is one of the grandest buildings in Potsdam’s Sanssouci Park.

It was commissioned by King Frederick William IV of Prussia and built between 1851 and 1864 in a style inspired by the Italian Renaissance, reflecting the king’s admiration for Italian art and architecture. Designed as both a royal palace and a winter shelter for exotic plants, the complex features long greenhouse halls, elegant arcades, terraces, and impressive twin towers.

Its highlights include the magnificent Raphael Hall, which displays numerous 19th-century copies of works by the Renaissance artist Raphael, as well as richly decorated royal guest apartments. Today, the Orangerieschloss is part of the UNESCO-listed Palaces and Parks of Potsdam and Berlin. It remains one of Potsdam’s most distinctive landmarks, admired for its architecture, gardens, art collections, and panoramic views over Sanssouci Park.
