Paide Castle is a historic medieval fortress located in the heart of Paide, central Estonia.

Built by the Livonian Order in the mid-13th century from local limestone, it was an important military and administrative center for centuries and played a key role in regional conflicts during the medieval period. Although much of the original castle was damaged or destroyed over time, its ruins remain a prominent landmark.

The castle’s most recognizable feature is the restored Tall Hermann tower, which rises about 30 meters high and offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. Today, Paide Castle is a popular cultural attraction that houses the Wittenstein Time Centre, an interactive museum that guides visitors through Estonia’s history. The combination of medieval ruins, historical exhibits, and scenic views makes it one of central Estonia’s most notable heritage sites.
