Pałac w Kopicach | Ruiny pałacu Schaffgotschów
Kopice, Poland, Poland
Pałac w Kopicach, known as the Schaffgotsch Palace ruins, stands in the village of Kopice near Brzeg in Opole Voivodeship, Poland, originally a medieval knightly seat rebuilt into a neoclassical residence in 1783 by Heinrich Kasper under architect Hans Rudolph.
In 1859, Hans Ulrich von Schaffgotsch and his wife Joanna Gryzik von Schomberg-Godulla—known as the "Silesian Cinderella"—purchased it, commissioning a lavish 1863-1864 neogothic expansion by architects Carl Lüdecke and Carl Heidenreich, featuring two octagonal towers, a chapel, orangery, and a 60-hectare romantic park with sculptures, artificial ruins, and a mausoleum.
Intact through World War II, it was deliberately set ablaze in 1956 while used as a grain store, leading to plunder and decay despite later private ownership attempts; today, the fenced ruins remain inaccessible but visible from the surrounding stawy ponds and park.
